Yuan Song (b. 1992) has a particular interest in things that are in order. His obsessive personality leads him to become easily stressed because the things around us are often in disorder and chaos. In 2016, Yuan decided to confront the source of his distress, and made a conscious effort to explore the non-orderly part of the world by collecting cheap, easily discarded materials. In a new body of work, he piece them together to form a foreign, micro, faux-luxurious world, often using transparent or luminous objects in his assemblies. The works are seductively magnificent on the outside, like a fragmented, highly concentrated view of the consumer world. In a network of colorful rays of light, diamond-like objects shine brilliantly in front of mirrors. The artist presents a fantasy of desires - beautiful in appearance, but in fact merely a mirrored maze.
